Julie Lee says pottery is in her blood – her mother was a potter, and Julie started working with clay as a young teenager.  A Napier local all her life, Julie’s studio at her home on Bluff Hill is where she creates flocks of her  much-loved birds – all native New Zealand species. Hand-made from terracotta using red brick clay from Dunedin, her birds really come to life when they are glazed with her signature vibrant colours.

Each piece has its own personality and quirky, cheeky expression – Julie loves that her birds make people smile.  Julie fires her pottery at a very high temperature which gives pieces excellent strength and frost resistance.
