Meet the Eastern Rosella

The Eastern Rosella is a brightly coloured parrot known for its striking red head, yellow chest, and patterned wings in shades of blue, black, and green. Originally native to Australia, it has established small populations in parts of Aotearoa, where it is most often seen in open woodland, farmland, and gardens.

Rosellas feed mainly on seeds, fruit, buds, and insects, spending much of their time foraging on the ground or moving between trees. They are generally quiet when feeding but can be quite vocal in flight, with sharp contact calls that announce their arrival. Agile and alert, Eastern Rosellas are strong fliers and quick movers, often seen in pairs or small groups.

Handcrafted in Arrowtown by our Cheeky Beaks ceramics team, each Eastern Rosella is individually shaped from white porcelain and carefully glazed to highlight its bold colouring and clean lines. Layered glazes create subtle variations in pattern and tone, giving every piece its own character.

Suitable for indoor or outdoor display, the Eastern Rosella adds a bright pop of colour and personality to any space. As with all Cheeky Beaks pieces, each one is handmade and one of a kind, with small variations that reflect the making process.
