Meet the Kea

The Kea is a large alpine parrot found in the mountainous regions of Aotearoa. Mostly olive green in colour, it has a long curved bill and flashes of bright orange and red under its wings, often revealed in flight or when exploring its surroundings.

Kea are known for their intelligence and curiosity. They feed on a wide range of foods, including plants, insects, and carrion, and are highly adaptable to changing environments. Living in alpine areas with harsh conditions, Kea are strong, confident fliers and skilled problem-solvers, often seen investigating objects, people, and anything new in their territory.

Each Kea is handcrafted in Arrowtown by our Cheeky Beaks ceramics team. Individually shaped from white porcelain and carefully glazed, each piece reflects the Kea’s solid form and distinctive features. Variations in glaze and finish ensure that no two Kea are exactly alike.

Suitable for indoor or outdoor display, the Kea brings a sense of character and alpine presence into your space. As with all Cheeky Beaks pieces, each one is handmade and one of a kind, with natural variations that reflect the making process.
