Meet the Bellbird (Korimako)
Say hello to the bellbird, or korimako, one of Aotearoa’s most recognisable songbirds. Named for its clear, bell-like call, the bellbird’s rich and varied song is a familiar sound in forests, gardens, and coastal bush throughout New Zealand.
Bellbirds are olive-green in colour with a pale throat and a slender curved beak, well suited for feeding on nectar. Along with nectar, they also eat insects and fruit, making them important pollinators for many native plants. Their energetic movement between flowering trees helps support healthy native ecosystems.
Handcrafted in Arrowtown by our Cheeky Beaks ceramics team, each bellbird is individually shaped from white porcelain and carefully glazed to reflect the bird’s rounded form and subtle colouring. Variations in the glaze give every piece its own character.
Suitable for both indoor and outdoor display, the bellbird brings a small reminder of New Zealand’s native birdlife and birdsong into any space. As with all Cheeky Beaks pieces, each bird is handmade, meaning no two are exactly the same.
