A short café closure for a big renovation

BREAKING NEWS... The Birdwoods Kitchen will be closed for renovations from Monday 12 August - re-opening on Saturday 31 August. The Gallery and Sweet Shop will both still be in full swing and open seven days a week from 10am-4pm throughout the renovation period. Our chefs do an absolutely amazing job preparing and plating every meal from just 12 square metres and our tiny kitchen is now in dire need of an extreme makeover. Back in 2004, life at Birdwoods started as a stand-alone Gallery and it continues to be the main engine that fuels our now multi-faceted business. A huge part of the Gallery’s enduring success is the creative energy and management that Julia Whyte, our Gallery Manager of the last 10 years puts into it. Julia has many strings to her professional bow, having worked for many years as a Buyer for the Interiors department at Kirkcaldie & Stains in Wellington as well as having established her own design company Diana Black Design. There is nothing like a bit of time on a tropical island to make one think about the meaning of life! Bruce and I departed New Zealand at the end of February, leaving our all-consuming life of Birdwoods for our ‘grown up gap year’ in Vanuatu. So far, so good, although as we are finding ‘every paradise does have its mosquitoes’! Our stone sculptures have been finding new homes at a rapid rate over the summer and the last few crates are now unpacked and almost all the remaining pieces are now on show in the garden and on the website.
